Popular Routes Into California
Most of the cars our customers ship to California come from Georgia, Florida and Texas. These are cross-country moves, so a little extra planning goes a long way. Every lane also runs in reverse, out of California.
Georgia → California
About 2,170 (Atlanta–LA) to 2,470 (Atlanta–San Francisco) milesWest on I-20 and I-10 through Texas and Arizona. Southern California deliveries come first; the Bay Area is another day north.
Florida → California
About 2,510 (Orlando–LA) to 2,730 (Miami–LA) milesCoast to coast on I-10, one of the longest single lanes in the country. See our LA to Miami guide for the same trip in reverse.
Texas → California
About 1,440 (Dallas–LA) to 1,730 (Dallas–San Francisco) milesHouston to LA is about 1,550 miles on I-10. Dallas runs I-20 to I-10 or I-40 west.

Where We Ship in California
City-by-city shipping notes
California is about 800 miles from top to bottom, so where in the state you are matters. Notes on the areas we ship to and from most:
Los Angeles
The biggest car market in the state. Hillside streets and traffic take some planning. See our Los Angeles car shipping page.
San Diego
Where I-5, I-8 and I-15 end near the border. A big Navy and Marine Corps town, so PCS moves are common.
Orange County
Irvine, Anaheim, Huntington Beach and more along I-5 and I-405. HOA communities may need a gate meeting spot.
Inland Empire
Riverside and San Bernardino on I-10 and I-15. Usually the first California stop for carriers coming from the east.
San Francisco Bay Area
San Francisco, Oakland and San Jose. Steep, narrow streets in the city mean we often meet at a flatter spot nearby.
Sacramento
The capital, on I-5 and I-80, with straightforward suburban pickups.
Central Valley
Fresno and Bakersfield along CA-99 and I-5. Easy truck access, with summer heat to plan around.

Cross-Country Moves Into California
Shipping a car from the East Coast or Texas to California is a long trip, often more than 2,000 miles. Rather than putting those miles on your car (plus fuel, hotels and days off work), you can fly and have the car delivered. For a step-by-step look at long moves, see shipping a car across the country.
We’ll want to know your exact pickup and delivery ZIP codes, the vehicle, and your timing. That’s what determines the price and the pickup window, much more than the state names alone.
Open or Enclosed in California?
Open transport is how most everyday cars travel, and it’s the lower price. California also has more classic, exotic and luxury cars than almost anywhere. For those, enclosed transport keeps the car covered all the way from the other coast. Shipping a Tesla or another EV? See our electric car shipping tips.
California Questions
Is it hard to ship a car into California from out of state?
No. Carriers come into California every day on I-10, I-40 and I-80. The extra step is on your end: California has its own registration and emissions rules for cars coming from other states.
What do I need to do after my car arrives in California?
New residents have 20 days to register an out-of-state vehicle with the DMV. Expect a VIN verification and, for most vehicles, a smog check. If the car is nearly new, it may also need to meet California emissions standards. Check the California DMV for your car.
Do you ship to Northern California too?
Yes. We ship to and from every part of the state, from San Diego to the Bay Area, Sacramento and the far north. Farther-north deliveries usually take a bit longer on cross-country lanes.
How much does it cost to ship a car to California?
It depends on where it’s coming from, where in California it’s going, the vehicle, open or enclosed, and the season. We don’t post made-up averages. Get an exact quote or call (424) 453-1800.
