What You Get With Enclosed
- Full cover. Hard-sided or soft-sided trailers keep weather and road debris off the car.
- Fewer cars per load. Enclosed trailers carry fewer vehicles than open carriers, so there’s less loading and unloading along the way.
- Gentler loading. Many enclosed carriers use liftgates and soft straps, which matter for low or delicate cars.
- Privacy. Nobody on the highway can see what’s inside, which some collectors prefer.
When Enclosed Is Worth It
If your car would cost a lot to repaint or repair, or simply can’t be replaced, enclosed is the safer choice. That includes exotic and luxury cars, classics and restorations, show and concours cars, custom builds, and anything with fresh paint, ceramic coating or a wrap. It’s also worth a look for long winter routes, where open carriers pick up road salt and slush.
For everyday cars, open transport is the better value. Not sure? Ask for both prices in one quote.
Shipping a High-Value Car
Tell us about the car when you ask for a quote: its value, ground clearance, and anything special, like a car that doesn’t run or has aftermarket aero. That helps us match you with an enclosed carrier that has the right equipment and insurance coverage for it. See exotic, luxury and classic car shipping for more.
Enclosed Transport Questions
How much more does enclosed transport cost?
Enclosed costs more than open on every route, because the trailers carry fewer cars and there are fewer of them on the road. The gap depends on your route and timing. Ask for both options in your quote and compare.
Do I need enclosed transport for my car?
Not usually for a daily driver. Enclosed is worth it for exotic, classic, collector, show or custom cars, anything with fresh paint or a wrap, and cars where a stone chip would be a real loss.
What is a liftgate, and do I need one?
A hydraulic liftgate raises the car into the trailer level, instead of driving it up steep ramps. It matters for very low cars with front splitters or long overhangs. Tell us your ground clearance and we’ll look for a carrier with the right equipment.
Is it harder to schedule enclosed transport?
There are fewer enclosed carriers than open ones, so it can take a little longer to line one up on less-traveled routes. Booking ahead helps.
