What’s Different About Shipping a High-Value Car
- Enclosed trailers. Your car stays covered from pickup to delivery. See enclosed auto transport.
- Liftgates instead of ramps. Low cars, long overhangs and front splitters need a level lift, not a steep ramp.
- Soft straps. Tie-downs over the tires or through the wheels, chosen to protect delicate rims and finishes.
- Fewer stops. Enclosed trailers carry fewer vehicles, so there’s less loading and unloading along the way.
Classic Cars, Restorations and Kit Cars
Older cars bring their own questions. Does it run and steer reliably? Are the brakes up to being winched? Is there a fluid leak? Is a fresh paint job still curing? Tell us everything when you ask for a quote. A car that can’t be driven on and off the trailer needs a carrier with a winch, and a fragile one may need extra space on the trailer.
Shipping to Shows, Auctions and Buyers
Heading to a concours, a collector car auction or delivering a sold car to a buyer? Give us the event or deadline date when you book so the carrier can plan around it. If you’re short on time, see expedited car shipping.
Before Pickup
- Photograph and video the car from every angle, with the date.
- Note the mileage on the bill of lading.
- Remove loose parts, car covers and personal items.
- Tell the driver about any quirks: a kill switch, an alarm, a tricky starter.
High-Value Car Questions
Do exotic cars have to ship enclosed?
They don’t have to, but most owners choose enclosed. It keeps the car out of weather, road debris and view for the whole trip. For a valuable car, the extra cost is usually small next to a repaint or a repaired chip.
My car is very low. Can it still be shipped?
Yes. Tell us the ground clearance and anything that hangs low, like a front splitter. We look for an enclosed carrier with a hydraulic liftgate, so the car is lifted level instead of driven up steep ramps.
Can you ship a classic car that doesn’t run?
Tell us when you ask for a quote. A non-running car needs a carrier with a winch, and that affects which carriers can take it and the price.
What about insurance for a high-value car?
Carriers carry cargo insurance, but limits vary. Tell us the car’s value so we can look for a carrier whose coverage fits, and ask to see the certificate before pickup. Check with your own insurer too.
