Fit the Car Into Your Moving Timeline
- Four weeks out: get your quote, especially if you’re moving in summer, the busiest moving season.
- Two weeks out: confirm your pickup window and who will hand over the car.
- Moving week: empty the car, leave a quarter tank of fuel, and take dated photos.
- Pickup day: inspect the car with the driver and sign the bill of lading.
- At your new home: inspect the car with the driver, sign, and register it in your new state.
Moving to a New State
Every state has its own rules and deadlines for registering a car brought in by a new resident. Some ask for an inspection, a VIN check or an emissions test. Our state pages cover the basics, including Florida, Texas, Georgia, Arizona and California.
Families With More Than One Car
Two cars and one driver is the most common reason families ship. One of you drives with the kids and the pets, and the other car goes on a carrier. Or ship both and fly. Ask for a quote on every vehicle and compare.

Moving With Your Car
Can my moving company take my car?
Some movers offer it, but many household moving trucks aren’t set up for vehicles, and the ones that are often subcontract the car to an auto transport carrier anyway. Booking the car separately lets you time it to your move.
Can I pack boxes in the car?
No. Carriers can’t haul household goods inside the car, and personal items generally aren’t covered by the carrier’s insurance. Pack them with your household move.
Can you ship two or more cars?
Yes. Tell us every vehicle when you ask for a quote. They can often go on the same carrier, depending on space.
What if my new place isn’t ready yet?
Tell us your dates and we’ll plan the pickup window around them. If delivery timing is tight, a friend or family member near your new home can accept the car for you.
